Our Website Privacy Policy

Thank you for visiting the Marina del Rey Tourism Board website. Your privacy is important to us. To better protect your privacy, we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used on this website, including when you use our hashtags on social media (such as #ilovemdr), sign up for our newsletters, respond to online or in-person surveys, as well as information you provide to us in person at events or through the mail. This policy outlines the steps we take to safeguard your privacy.

The types of personally identifiable information that may be collected include: name, email address, city, state and telephone number. The data owner for the information we collect is Marina del Rey Tourism Board (MDRTB). MDRTB is responsible for the collection and management of user information.

MDRBTB is subject to the investigatory and enforcement powers of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

HOW WE USE THE INFORMATION

We may use the information you provide about yourself to respond to your inquiries. We may use the non-personally identifiable information that we collect to improve the design and content of our site and to enable us to enhance your Internet experience. We also may use this information in the aggregate to measure server performance and analyze site usage. We sometimes track the keywords that are entered into our search engines to measure interest in specific topics and to improve the consumer experience on the site.

Similarly, if you have made public posts from your other social media accounts that include our specialized hashtags (including, but not limited to, #iloveMDR and #yesvisitMDR), we may collect and use that information to help provide you with more relevant, personalized content about Marina del Rey. You can control whether we see this information by not using our specialized hashtags. We may also collect information from you in-person or through the mail if you provide us with a business card or other document that includes your name, email address, phone number, and/or other personal information.

With your consent, we will use your email address and/or other personal information to provide you with information we think you will be interested in, for example, to send you our newsletters, notify you of new publications, to update or introduce you to events in and around the Marina del Rey area or other areas we think you might enjoy, and to inform you about updates to our website. Even after you have agreed to receive such messages, you can let us know at any time if you would prefer not to receive any or all of this information either by following the unsubscribe instructions in any email you receive from us or by sending an email to info@visitmdr.com that contains the email address you wish us to unsubscribe from our lists.

We also have a legitimate business interest in complying with our legal obligations. To that end, we may release personal information if we believe in good faith that: the law or legal process requires it; we have received a valid administrative request from a law enforcement agency; or such release is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our respective affiliates, business partners, customers, or others.

In the event the MDRTB conducts an online promotion, contest, or sweepstakes (collectively, a “Promotion”), information we collect will be used consistent with the terms and conditions outlined in the promotion guidelines or rules, which may include a reference to this Policy. You can elect to provide permission for MDRTB to use the email address and/or telephone number you provide when entering a Promotion for sending you marketing messages. However, you are only required to provide such permission in order to participate in a Promotion if it is necessary for the running of the promotion. For instance, if we request your email address or your social media handle because it is used to notify you if you’ve won and/or to send your prize, and you do not want to provide it, you will not be able to participate in the promotion. The information you provide us will be used to administer the promotion. If you have not opted in to receive further communications about upcoming promotions, your identifying data will be retained only for as long as it is necessary to administer the promotion and legally comply with our obligations.

Although we take appropriate measures to safeguard against unauthorized disclosures of information, we cannot assure you that personally identifiable information that we collect will never be disclosed in a manner that is inconsistent with this Privacy Notice. Inadvertent disclosures may result, for example, when third parties misrepresent their identities in asking the site for access to personally identifiable information about themselves for purposes of correcting possible factual errors in the data.
